Hanging doll inside a wardrobe

Installation in my attic studio

The attic has an alcove with a built-in shelving unit, which was used by my brother long ago to store his clothes and books.

Hanging the doll inside the wardrobe unit gives it the appearance of being enclosed inside a box-like space.

Enclosing the figures within cages, boxes, suitcases and furniture is a recurring theme in my work. I like to add a feeling of anxiety and uncanniness to a mundane domestic environment.

Double headed skeletal torso crowned with a vintage mechanical hubodometer

Stemco Hubodometer

One of a series of four head and torso sculptures, the Stemco Hubodometer sculpture is a double headed skeletal torso crowned with a vintage mechanical hubodometer (a device for measuring the distance a vehicle has travelled by counting axle revolutions).

The work continues the exploration into how found objects inserted into the context of the human body create a feeling of abject unease, dark humour and uncanniness.
